The site, a one acre wooded property, away from the noisy city. The client wanted a weekend home to be designed with a concept of having a slow paced life away from his hectic schedule where he could come and relax. The area had towering old Gulmohar trees with peacocks strutting around and we planned a retreat that would weave itself around this natural environment. One of the biggest challenges of this project was to negotiate the mature trees on the site and attempt to create a low slung architectural expression that would weave through the existing foliage and sit in harmony with its natural surroundings. So we took the concept of verticality contrasting from the short spread gulmohar trees such that the built stands out in the plot and balanced it out with the use of raw textured materials and a pool in front to add to the serenity of the façade creating a ‘heavenly’ feeling.
